My new old friend, Ashley Angelo.

Well I'm here. After a year away from one of my biggest passions, summer camp ministry, I am back. The staff have all gathered from literally around the world and we are starting to work together. We are practicing our pirate plays, we are singing our camp songs, we are laughing, detoxing from sleeping more than 7 hours a night and most of all we are praying.

Last night was our Agape meal and communion. My heart was in, and had been all week, in a state of over drive. I had so many thoughts running through my head and I felt so many burdens on my heart that I was afraid that I might cry. When it came time for foot washing I was praying that God could help me, that He could send someone for me to connect with and that we could support each other this summer. While I had no idea who, He did. As I was turning to look around for someone to pray with I heard my name being called and saw that it was my friend Ashley Angelo. It was so amazing to see how God could help me in such a fast way! Already this summer she and I had 'connected' and thought the same way, whether it was a verse in a song, a joke to share or wearing the same coloured staff shirt, and just that evening I was wearing a shirt that I had found in lost and found, unknowing that it was hers!

So we prayed together and for each other. My heart and mind are still over run with thoughts, but not as bad because I know that God is helping me to give them over to Him with the help of my friend Ashley.

May the summer camp season begin!

This last weekend I went to a going away party for one of my old high school friends. She was moving up to Canada to be closer to her boyfriend and had one last party to celebrate friendships. The cool thing was I don't live in Texas but was able to go to the party and in that process I was able to see some of our old friends. Friends I hadn't seen in almost 8 or so years! It was GREAT!

We caught up on everyones lives and then on our future plans.

It was amazing, we have gone from se
eing each other every day for four years to not seeing each other for almost 8 years, yet we could still sit down and visit and talk as if we had just gotten out of Mrs Connells Biology class. I imagine we have changed, our world view, our relationship with Christ and so much more. But we could still laugh at the same jokes, talk about the same subjects and well, we still looked almost the same (minus a few curves, curls or colour).

Thank you all who I was able to hang out with! I was blessed to reconnect with each of you and will treasure your friendships.

Here's to our upcoming 10 year reunion!

CAMP WAWONA HERE I COME!

Camp is coming. In a week I will be well on my way to Camp Wawona, where the sun is warm, the mountains high and God hangs out. It's true, Jesus is at Camp Wawona.

I'm working on getting myself pumped up and excited about heading out there. Not that I don't want camp or I'm over camp but I am needing to focus
and get ready for a summer of hard work, yes, we do work hard and long hours. Hence the picture.

Over all though, I need to pray more. I need to pray for the kids that are going to be coming and learning from all of the staff, I need to pray for the staff who will be coming together to work for the first time and I need to pray for me, that I can be used by God and on His agenda, not mine.

This will be year number 10 for me and it makes me feel slightly old, it also makes me feel slightly blessed. I hope number 10 is a good year because if things go as planned I will be working on a project in Tanzania for awhile. I'm thankful that I've been able to work at camp for this long. It's a dream come true and perhaps later I will be able to tell the story of when I knew I wanted to work at camp.

Here's to camp!

a letter

Dear Jetlag,

That's to bad that you couldn't stick around this time. I had been getting used to the mid-afternoon naps, I was finding them enjoyable. You were nice to have around for those few days.

As a friend who has met your acquaintance a few times please, PLEASE don't come back to soon. Just so you know you are NOT invited to come visit in September. I'll be gone the first week and would like for you not to come to Tanzania with me. So please pen that into your calandar as NOT VISITING SONYA WHILE SHE IS IN TANZANIA THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER.

Thanks for your consideration.

Your old pal,
Sonya
